Najee Murphy, also known as Naj Murph, was born and raised in Newburgh, NY. The sixth borough native’s admiration for hip-hop began at an early age, magnified by his involvement at his father’s record store. It wasn’t until his partnership with producer Nick Dean in 2009, that he began to bombard his peers and acquaintances with his passion for hip-hop and his lyrical savvy. Shortly after the release of Opening Act, Naj’s premier mixtape, Naj began receiving even more attention from students at Morehouse College, Spelman College, Clark-Atlanta University, and W.A.T.I.A. Music Group. Naj’s union with W.A.T.I.A. set the tone for his first album, Heir Murph. Heir Murph was released Fall 2011, with a precursor to the album titled “…And God Created Murph.” Naj’s lyrical content exhibits a social conscience and a delivery that is reminiscent of hip-hop of the early 90s.
